Key Stage One Emergency Lesson Plans for ICT

These emergency lesson plans for Year 1 and Year 2 ICT are only to be used by supply teachers who are faced with no planning or easily accessible resources.

Create a poster on a topic being studied.
Write a question relating to a topic they are studying and see if they can find the answer.
Ask other students their favourite colour and record it on a graph.
Draw and label a computer – what are the different parts, what are they used for?
Use work completed in literacy and type it up and print it off.
In pairs type and illustrate a poem from a book in the classroom, print off to make a class anthology.
Brainstorm all the different types of ICT and its uses.

Key Stage One Emergency Lesson Plans for PE

These emergency lesson plans for Year 1 and Year 2 PE are only to be used by supply teachers who are faced with no planning or easily accessible resources.

Move Like An…. Get the class to move like different beans, animals, weather.
Mirror Image – in pairs, one partner to do a move for their partner to copy.
Activity Stations – different areas for different actions… Skipping, throwing and catching, crawling, running on the spot, balancing.
Simon Says – run, walk slowly, jump, change directions, walk sideways etc.
Ball Games – in teams over/under, around left/right side, passing.
Obstacle Course – create an obstacle course for students to practice a selection of
different skills.

Guess the Instrument – students to close their eyes, you play a sound on an instrument and they have to guess what instrument it was.
Create some music to dance to.
Compose a song to help a baby get to sleep.

Key Stage One Emergency Lesson Plans for Geography

These emergency lesson plans for Year 1 and Year 2 Geography are only to be used by supply teachers who are faced with no planning or easily accessible resources.

Ask students to draw and label a map of the classroom.
Ask students to draw and label the school and playground.
Get students to describe what they can see in the playground.
Students to describe areas in the classroom/school for others to describe.
Students to design in groups their ideal playground, labelling what they would have in it
and why.
Using a story as a basis, students to create what they imagine the story setting to be – e.g. Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood.
Observe and record what they can see and hear in the playground.
Create a questionnaire to ask a character from a story about where they live.
Brainstorm the types of houses and buildings in the area they live in.
Discuss the places they know/are aware of/have been to and create a map from their
point of view of the world.
Describe different places they have been to and how it was different to where they live.
Create a weather chart with activities they like to do in different weathers.
Discuss what happens with different types of weather – when it rains lots what happens?
When it is hot what happens?
Think about the best places to cross the road near the school and create a poster to remind people how to cross the road safely.

Brainstorm words and phrases that they can use to find out about the past.
Talk about who is in their family and think about how their childhood could have been

Investigate how they could find out about the past – what resources could they use? Who could they ask?
Using books from the library find out people/events from the past.

Key Stage One Emergency Lesson Plans for Science

These emergency lesson plans for Year 1 and Year 2 science are only to be used by supply teachers who are faced with no planning or easily accessible resources.

How many jumps can their partner do in one minute? Estimate, time and complete,
recording their work on a table.
Floating and sinking: selection of items available – what will float? What will sink? Why do you think that? Complete activity and record results and why they are different/right.
Plan and carry out investigation into shoe size/hand span, recording results on a graph.
Discuss what is alive and what is dead. Students draw items to show each and label with
key words/sentences to explain why dead/alive.
Draw the life cycle of a butterfly, labelling key parts.
In groups draw round one member of the group and then all label/draw body parts they
know on it.
Discuss being healthy and get students to prepare a television commercial explaining some exercises/healthy food to be healthy.
How can we stay clean? Students to draw a poster to remind others to wash hands after
going to the toilet, before eating, after playing outside, brush teeth twice a day etc.
Create a leaflet explaining how to look after a seed to make sure it grows into a healthy
plant.
Take students on a nature walk around the playground – what can they see? What can they hear? What can they smell? Students to identify what plants and animals are in their school environment.
Classifying items – give each group a selection of different items and get them to classify them and then explain to the rest of the class what they have done and why.
Investigate how things change when they get hot or cold and why they think it may
happen.
Give students a selection of items and ask them to investigate and describe how they
move.
Identify different sources of light in the classroom.
Investigate different sounds they can hear in the classroom/playground. What can they
hear? What do they need to do to hear? Why are some sounds louder than others?

Discuss their families – who are in them, ages, things they like to do as a family.
Discuss important events in their lives – birthdays, Christmas, birth of siblings, holidays.
Ask students to draw their family.
Talk about hobbies and things they like to do, draw picture to show their hobbies.
Pair students up and ask them to interview each other and then feed back to group about their partner.
Have selection of activities available on the computers for the students.
Talk about where they live and where they would like to live.
Talk about where they have been and what the similarities and differences between that
place and where they live.
